How
good is the Little Red river trout fishing?
Consider
this:
The
current International Game Fish Association (IGFA) and National
Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame all-tackle world-record German
Brown trout was caught here in 1992. The big brown weighed in
at 40 lbs. and 4 ozs!
Trout waters
extend from the Greers Ferry Dam to the Highway 305 bridge -
a total of 32 miles of trout infested water!
The Little
Red Fly Shop is located on the banks of the world famous Little
Red River in the town of Heber Springs, Arkansas. Only an hour
drive north of our capital city of Little Rock, Heber Springs
is chock full of things to see and do. According to the local
Chamber of Commerce, seven million visitors graced the mountain
hideaway of Heber Springs last year! Compare that to the four
and one half million visitors at Yellowstone National Park and
you will agree there must be something special here.
Heber Springs
not only has the Little Red River, but a beautiful lake as well.
Greers Ferry Lake's 37,500 acres (360+ miles of shoreline) is
full of record Walleye (world record), Pike, Stripers and Hybrids
(world record). Its pristine waters provide drinking water to
tens of thousands of Arkansans. You can scuba dive our lake!
House boat rentals, ski boats, jet skis, lake fishing guide
trips, and more await visitors Spring through Fall. Other attractions
in the area include the seven springs for which Heber Springs
is famous. Drinking from these healing waters is said to be
a curative experience.
The
U.S. Fish and Wildlife service maintains a national trout hatchery
near the impressive Greers Ferry Dam. Trout can be viewed at
the hatchery from eggs weighing a fraction of an ounce to over
20 pound adults. Tours inside the dam are conducted daily.
Collins
Creek, near the hatchery, features waterfalls and trout. This
stream is designed specifically for children and the handicapped
to enjoy. Rainbow and Brook trout abound in this beautiful mountain
stream and is an attraction not to be missed.
If you
are planning a fishing excursion to our river or our lake, you
will need a fishing license (16 years or older) and a trout

pay $11.00. Resident trout permit is $5.00 while a non-resident
pays $12.00. You can purchase licenses and permits over the
counter at sporting good stores, hunting and fishing supply
